This article shows how projects under the Model for self-financing, ecological, sustainable, local development projects promoted by the Dutch NGO Stichting Bakens Verzet ("Another Way") support agricultural production and increase food security in project areas. The Model is in the public domain and available for use free of charge. It can be downloaded from website www.flowman.nl. The article describes the attention given to management of communal lands, waste recycling structures,including use of composted faeces, recycling of urine and how it is linked to food security, use of other organic household wastes. It discusses food and water security in project areas in times of drought and crisis, plant nurseries and food safety, cooperative seed banks, and biomass for the production of mini-briquettes for cooking. The article also contains sections on water conservation measures built into project execution.
