In December 2004, the Development Gateway asked its members to provide their point of view on the following: Controversial questions surrounding the role of multinational corporations in developing countries abound. From the corporate perspective –are the risks too high? the markets too small? Is it really possible to make a profit in the least developed countries? And from the policy and societal perspective –how do you attract foreign investors while at the same time creating your own private sector and protecting your people and the environment? With so many seemingly diverging interests -is a win-win scenario possible? This comment was provided by Peter Chisawillo, Vice President,
Tanzania Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture in response to these questions.
