| Empowering Youth through ICT Innovation |
Information and communication technologies are projected to be potent future influences on youth in developing countries. Young people (15-24 years) are today among the primary users of the Internet, accounting for 40 percent or more of Internet users in a range of developing countries. With this in mind, the 2006 Development Gateway Award focused on "ICT for Empowerment of Youth" aimed at recognizing outstanding ICT projects by and for youth in developing countries.
Mindset Network from South Africa is the winner of the 2006 Development Gateway Award, selected from more than 160 nominated projects worldwide including the following 30 short-listed nominees. Recognized at the ITU Telecom World Youth Forum in Hong Kong from December 4-6, the winning project will receive an award of $100,000. Half of this amount is earmarked to mentor prospective leaders in ICT, disseminate lessons learned, and other outreach activities. To read more about the Award process, visit the DG Award website. |
