Labour Migration
The Global Search for a Better Life
Labour migration is at the top of the policy agendas of many nations. Countries that workers leave in search of a better life, countries they pass through, and countries they are destined for are part of a labour market made increasingly interdependent by the forces of globalization. When workers in the developing world leave traditional livelihoods and the lack of jobs in their home countries, what are the social and economic consequences? What impact does the "brain drain" have on the developing world? Is the labour market of the future a transnational one, requiring international regulation? • This cross-topic special highlights the effects of globalization on indigenous peoples.
