Governance
Authority for the Common Good?
Good governance is universally understood as a pre-condition for stable nations. But how is good governance achieved and maintained? Do all countries agree about what good governance is? What leads citizens to respect and trust government institutions? What role does transparency play? This spotlight looks at governance from the perspective of civil society, differences in ethical and cultural values, food security, post-conflict reconstruction, and the Internet. It coincides with two major international governance meetings that take place in Seoul, Korea from May 25-31--the 11th International Anti-Corruption Conference and the Global Forum On Fighting Corruption and Safeguarding Integrity. The Gateway's new Topic Page on Governance provides a permanent forum for ongoing inquiry into these issues.
