Pro Mujer, a microfinance network operating in Latin America, seeks a full-time, bilingual (English/Spanish) Grant Writer to join our Development Team at Pro Mujer’s headquarters in New York City.
Pro Mujer, which is Spanish for Pro Women, is a women's development organization whose mission is to provide Latin America’s poorest women with the means to build livelihoods for themselves and futures for their families through microfinance, business training, and healthcare support. Over the last eighteen years, Pro Mujer has disbursed over $382 million in small loans to poor women in Latin America. Our track record has been recognized by leading organizations, such as the Gates Foundation, which three years ago chose Pro Mujer as one of its first microfinance grantees, and Forbes magazine, which this year named Pro Mujer as one of the top microfinance organizations in the world.

Job responsibilities • Write, prepare, and submit grant proposals and reports to foundations, corporations and other funders. • Write letters of intent and concept papers, and prepare and submit acknowledgement letters in a timely manner. • Research potential foundation and corporate funders, reviewing guidelines to determine if funder is a good match for Pro Mujer • Working with Development Director, contact potential funders to gauge interest in considering a grant proposal • Maintain records for institutional donors, including computer and paper files, and database records • Assist with fund raising strategy and other development tasks as needed • Handle other writing assignments including editorial support for the annual report, and occasional brief articles for the newsletter
Qualifications • Outstanding writing skills in English, including ability to communicate technical matters clearly and concisely, ability to communicate human impact of organization’s work, and ability to adapt writing style as appropriate. Writing and analytic skills are as important as fundraising experience • Bilingual in English/Spanish. Ability to speak and communicate via email with Spanish-speaking Pro Mujer staff in Latin America in order to collect information for proposals and reports; and ability to read and understand documents in Spanish • Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines • Excellent research skills, preferably with experience in researching foundation and corporate funders. • Bachelor’s degree and at least two years’ experience in development, communications, or journalism preferred • Intellectual curiosity, outgoing and resourceful work style, and a commitment to learning more about microfinance
