On 18 November 2004, the UN is launching the International Year of Microcredit 2005. The Year will raise awareness about the importance of microfinance and deepen our understanding of what it takes to build inclusive financial sectors. It will promote microfinance as an effective tool to generate employment and support the economic participation of poor and low income people, thus contributing to our collective efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
