Congratulations to Mohammed Yunus and Grameen Bank, the winners of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize. Mr. Yunus and the bank he founded were recognized for developing microfinance as a way to eliminate poverty. In 2004, Mr. Yunus accepted the inaugural Development Gateway Award on behalf of the Grameen Bank for its Village Phone program, which used microcredit and information and communications technology to help female entrepreneurs start a business providing wireless payphone service in rural areas of Bangladesh.
