The International Trade Centre (ITC/UNCTAD/WTO) and Hewlett Packard announced today the launch of two new Microenterprise Acceleration centers in Alexandria and Cairo Egypt on 19 and 20 April. This will bring the total number of MAP centres opened to 33 centres, spanning 11 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Hewlett Packard (HP) and the International Trade Centre (ITC/UNCTAD/WTO) are partnering to apply information and communications technology to improve the international competitiveness of Egyptian SMEs. The aim of the HP Micro-Enterprise Acceleration Program (MAP) is to increase the social and economic opportunities available to small and medium enterprises by giving them access to HP technology, a new technology training curriculum and business counselling.
The program features a training of trainers program, management, exporting and “e” training content and an HP ICT training package prepared by a US based training provider. Trainers and consultants have participated in a training programme on e-applications as well as how to decide when and where to apply “e” solutions to help SMEs become competitive. The Alexandria Business Association (ABA) and the Foreign Trade Training Centre (FTTC) have been selected as the two centres to launch this program in Egypt. The launch event entitled “Bridging the Use Divide: Putting “e” to Work for Egyptian SMEs” will take place at the offices of ABA and FTTC on 19 and 20 April 2006.
