The Black AIDS Institute has released a Report on the state of AIDS in Black America, titled “The Time is Now!”. The report explains the policies and politics that have helped shape the HIV/AIDS epidemic among African men and women in America and the nation’s response to it. It articulates the challenges faced by Black Americans in reshaping and ultimately stopping the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The report is directed both AIDS experts and members of the community who may have become aware of the problem only recently and now need information on how and where to get involved. The Black AIDS Institute opened its doors in 1999 and has undertaken several projects and campaigns to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS among the Black community. The Report emphasizes that with the epidemic raging out of control among Blacks and with the national commitment to stop the spread of the infection or to help those already affected hopelessly inadequate - it remains for the community itself to collect the resources and the will, to enter the fight.
