What is HIV/AIDS?
HIV/AIDS has claimed the lives of 22 million people around the world and the pace of new infections in the developing world, particularly Africa, threatens to kill millions more. AIDS is the largest health pandemic in modern history, and its economic and social impact has already undermined decades of social development. Information, on the other hand, is a key ingredient to stopping the transmission of HIV. Innovative public education campaigns implemented in such places as Brazil, United States, Thailand, and Uganda have brought about dramatic reductions in the transmission of the virus. Exchange of experiences and sharing of ideas have also played a key role in allowing government agencies and civil society organizations to successfully improve their efforts to combat AIDS.

What is the Purpose of this Page?
The HIV/AIDS Page is geared to providing needed information and to those most involved in fighting the AIDS pandemic in developing countries: governments, NGOs, health professionals, donor agency workers, researchers, activists and persons living with HIV. The page will complement the many excellent AIDS sites maintained by other organizations by offering an interactive and multi-stakeholder platform that a variety of organizations can use to widely disseminate high value knowledge and information. In this way we hope to provide local perspectives and experiences in addition to global views on combating HIV/AIDS.
