OECD Report: Civil Society Key to Ensuring Integrity in Public Procurement

What role can civil society play in tackling corruption in public procurement, where governments and state-owned firms buy goods and services from the private sector? According to a recent report from the Organisation for Economic Development and Co-operation (OECD), civil society is a key actor for shedding light on the procurement process and monitoring its integrity. Civil society, as a third, independent party in the public procurement process significantly contributes to its credibility amongst stakeholders and the wider public. The OECD’s publication portrays numerous practical examples of measures that should be taken into account by governments when embracing anti-corruption strategies in public procurement. The contents of this publication received input from Transparency International’s advisors in public contracting.
