The Open Democracy Advice Centre (ODAC) provides practical and niche services that help individuals and organisations in South Africa utilize access to information legislation to engage in transparency efforts. The ODAC enhances civil society access to public and private information through the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA); promotes the fight against corruption by providing legal advice, support and case referral for whistle blowers using the Protected Disclosures Act (PDA); supports effective implementation of the new legislation by assisting public and private institutions to develop policies, procedures and systems; provides public information and training on using the new legislation through public awareness campaigns, an internet website and regular workshops; monitors the implementation and use of the legislation in order to refine and improve it by conducting applied and comparative research
