This publication is the outcome of a seminar hosted by ESCAP, in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the State Patent Office of the Government of Uzbekistan. The seminar focused on strengthening institutional capacity for protection of intellectual property rights to promote investment and transfer of technology with special emphasis on information and communication technology (ICT). It was held in Tashkent from 30 March to 1 April 2004. The meeting was attended by representatives and experts from 12 countries of the region including 8 countries with economies in transition.
