Transparency and accountability in resource-rich countries are critical for ensuring that wealth derived from those resources is managed for the benefit of the entire population, an International Monetary Fund (IMF) official says.
In January 27 remarks directed at African countries, IMF Deputy Managing Director Agustin Carstens said that access to reliable information allows elected representatives and the general public to participate in developing economic growth strategies based on the extraction of those resources.
