1st World Congress of Muslim Philanthropists, March 22-24, 2008

The 1st World Congress of Muslim Philanthropists (WCMP) will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, from March 22-24, 2008. The congress is being organized by a non-political, non-denominational and independent steering committee comprised of a group of Muslims with background in international philanthropy. According to its website, it is an initiative, which provides knowledge, resources and networking opportunities to "people who have the will to make a difference. WCMP works in partnership with the global community of humanitarians and charitable entities to mobilize financial and human resources to advance the common good." Keynote speakers include Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General, Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC); Her Royal Highness Sheikha Al Mayassa Bint Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar; and Ebrahim Rasool, Premier of Western Cape, South Africa. The facilitation and the meeting services are being provided by Chicago based Nonprofit Empowerment Group (NEG), an event management company.
